Maddie Medley – Good Clean Fun

Maddie Medley bby Curtis Wayne Millard

Indie folk singer-songwriter Maddie Medley releases her latest single, “Good Clean Fun,” today.

With disarming honesty and a voice that vibrates with both ache and affection, Medley captures the dizzying sweetness of surrender. First penned by the Kobalt songwriter at 19-year-old, this final, lived-in version carries with it the hindsight of nearly a decade. “Good Clean Fun” unfolds like a secret whispered under covers — intimate, bittersweet and wrapped in hope.

“Falling in love puts you in an alternate reality; one where everyone is innocent and time doesn’t matter,” says Medley. “That’s what ‘Good Clean Fun’ is about. ‘Young love’ is a lie. I’ve found that love and passion are timeless, ageless and forever.”

It’s a confession from someone who doesn’t trust easily but wants to believe in the safety of love, with lyrics: “I am not much for Good Clean Fun / I tend to fuck these things up / but when I woke up late next to you / I decided I was done.” There’s no cynicism here, only the fragile belief that love, no matter how fleeting, is worth the risk.

Co-produced by Medley and her longtime creative and life partner, Luke Krutzke, this gentle love song is refined through the depth of their partnership. Further complimented by the Grammy-winning engineering of Sean Sullivan (Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson), the song was recorded at the Tractor Shed in Goodlettsville, TN. Supporting players include Josey Toney on fiddle (formerly of Sierra Ferrell’s band), Luke Shepperd on drums, and Joel Stratton on bass. Medley says the sessions were lighthearted and full of laughter — a balance she intentionally seeks out in her creative spaces.

“Good Clean Fun” follows June’s fiery single “Fawn’s Rage,” which premiered its haunting, self-directed video exclusively via Earmilk, and March’s reflective “Jesus Moment.” Around “Fawn’s Rage,” Medley launched her first-annual Fawn’s Rage Fest, curating a live event that spotlighted the raw energy of her latest era.
