Alexandra Savior – Beneath The Lilypad

Buzzy, alt-pop force Alexandra Savior has released her new single “The Mothership” alongside the announcement of her upcoming third studio album Beneath The Lilypad, out May 16 via RCA Records. A rich, ethereal journey through a time in her life where her sense of self and artistic identity both came into question, Beneath The Lilypad finds Savior navigating new frontiers of vulnerability, both in her storytelling and in her relationship with herself.

The single “The Mothership,” a lushly orchestrated love song of silver screen dream pop that speaks to Savior’s bond and tenderness toward her partner and producer, Drew Erickson (Lana Del Rey, Father John Misty).
“‘The Mothership’ represents God coming to take me from this earth and knowing that that’s okay because I’m with him,” shares Savior on the new single. “So much of the song is really for Drew because it’s about this internal struggle that I have. It makes the song more meaningful and it’s a way for me to write a love song to somebody whilst also talking about the struggles I’ve had with my bipolar and my mental health.”
Featuring recently released single “Unforgivable,” an instant fan favorite that invites an open conversation about the misuse of power and was written as a mantra to stop blaming yourself for the unforgivable things that others have done to you, Beneath The Lilypad is Savior’s first album released through RCA Records and marks a significant milestone in her acclaimed career. An 11-song collection of rich, deeply personal, and relatable narratives, Beneath The Lilypad is the result of an unbridled creative freedom driven entirely by instinct that tackles themes of love, ego, insecurity, and mental health and finds Savior taking the helm to right a course on her own terms – even using her skills as a collage artist and painter to create the album and single art.
Existing between planes and genres, Beneath The Lilypad does not tread a linear path. “Because that’s not how life goes, and that’s certainly not been true of my mental health journey,” Savior adds. “I wanted this album to really reflect that. Life is up and down. Things have gotten better, and they’ve dipped. It wouldn’t have been true to who I am or where I am to have told this story any other way.”
Gearing up for festival dates this summer including Outside Lands, Savior made a name for herself as an effortlessly cool, once-in-a-generation talent and, in her new music, is paying homage to noir and vintage surrealist cinema as well as prophetic image makers Man Ray, Jean Cocteau, and Maya Deren.
