The Head and the Heart

The Head And The Heart have released the video for “Don’t Show Your Weakness,” a track off of their latest album Every Shade of Blue that came out this past spring via Warner Records/Reprise Records.

The video was directed by Jacqueline Justice and creative directed by Charity Rose Thielen. Charity noted “The initial inspiration for the video came after Matty showed me a two plus minute video of his recent endoscopy examining his vocal cords. Jacquline and Drew helped further develop this concept using both surreal and real references to the exam footage, weaving animation with real life.”

The band went on to say that “Don’t Show Your Weakness explores fragility and strength and revels in the often blurry territory in which these two seemingly opposing traits intersect. This colorful and mysterious video is a celebration of the liberation that comes when we allow the most vulnerable parts of ourselves to be laid bare for all to see.”

The Head And The Heart will resume their Every Shade of Blue 2022 North American Tour on September 10th. Special guests joining the band in select cities include Shakey Graves and Hiss Golden Messenger. Tickets for all shows are now on sale.

The Head and the Heart

The Head And The Heart have released their fifth studio album Every Shade of Blue on Reprise/Warner Records.

Every Shade of Blue

Of the album, Charity Rose Thielen wrote:

“The past few years have been nothing if not transitional. The people we were at the beginning of the pandemic are not the same ones writing this now. Every Shade of Blue is a collection of songs that celebrates the beautiful mess that we were during this time of transformation. For us it represents that constant dance between the head and the heart, the push and pull of different ideas and voices that add up to be greater than the sum of their parts. It is a record that tries its best to reconcile who we once were with who we are now and hope one day to become.”

The Regrettes confirm the release of their third studio album, Further Joy, on April 8th via Warner Records. The band, consisting of singer and songwriter, Lydia Night, as well as Genessa Gariano (guitar), Brooke Dickson (bass) and Drew Thomsen (drums), have written a manual for living in these times, replete with highly personalized songs about things we’re all going through. Night shares, “that phrase, ‘further joy,’ summarized what it meant to be on the hamster wheel of constantly chasing happiness, but in turn, that’s what makes you unhappy. I was stuck in a loop of wanting to be better, wanting to be good, and therefore I couldn’t be here. I couldn’t be present.” The desire to break free of that cycle is what the band’s third album, Further Joy, is all about, a joyous and self-aware soundtrack for those interested in what Lydia refers to as “dancing the pain away.”

The Regrettes also share their music video for “That’s What Makes Me Love You,” directed by Claire Marie Vogel and Olivia Eberstadt. “I was in a dark anxious place and realized that I was becoming very critical of my partner.”

Night reveals about the new song from their forthcoming album, “I got out of that place by realizing, ‘I love this person for exactly who they are and nothing needs to change about who they are or who I am to make each other happy. The song came from me flipping the narrative to ‘That’s not why I should be scared. That’s why I love you.’”

The band today also confirm their 19 date Further Joy headlining tour (full dates below), with support from Alex Lahey on all dates.

The Head And The Heart have revealed “Virginia (Wind In The Night)”, the second released track from their forthcoming fifth studio album Every Shade of Blue out April 29th on Reprise/Warner Records.

Jonathan Russell spoke about the inspiration behind the song, saying ”Being from Virginia, for me this song represents a long and winding relationship to place – a place that is grounding. I’m often drawing on my life through symbolism as a way into someone else’s psyche. It’s part of my search for a deeper connection without having to compare our experiences directly. There is a reason this song has two titles. One is literal and one is symbolic. Not everyone is from Virginia, I know that. But I bet you have walked home and heard the wind in the night.”

Last month, The Head And The Heart announced the Every Shade of Blue 2022 North American Tour which kicks off May 20th. Special guests joining the band in select cities include Shakey Graves, Dawes and Jade Bird.

Laufey

Twenty-one year old Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter, musician, cellist and pianist Laufey will release a new single in collaboration with Warner Records artist Adam Melchor tomorrow. Listen to “Love Flew Away,” which the two artists co-wrote about similar experiences with long-distance heartbreak.

Co-written by the two musicians, “Love Flew Away” seamlessly blends the talent of both Laufey and Melchor in a gorgeous ballad. Laufey says, “Adam has been one of my greatest musical idols in the past few years so it’s an incredible honor to release this song with him. Writing with Adam was so much fun and we found that we had similar experiences with the pain of long distance love – which we ultimately wrote the song about.” Melchor continues, “The first time I heard Laufey’s voice, I instantly knew I needed to sing with her. She came to my house one day and we just talked for about 7 hours and by the end we found we had so many things in common, relationship-wise. I showed her this idea that I had after leaving the person I had been seeing overseas, and how sometimes love feels like it flies away. She took the idea to the next level and we knew it would be incredibly powerful as a duet.”
