The Head and the Heart

The Head And The Heart have released the video for “Don’t Show Your Weakness,” a track off of their latest album Every Shade of Blue that came out this past spring via Warner Records/Reprise Records.

The video was directed by Jacqueline Justice and creative directed by Charity Rose Thielen. Charity noted “The initial inspiration for the video came after Matty showed me a two plus minute video of his recent endoscopy examining his vocal cords. Jacquline and Drew helped further develop this concept using both surreal and real references to the exam footage, weaving animation with real life.”

The band went on to say that “Don’t Show Your Weakness explores fragility and strength and revels in the often blurry territory in which these two seemingly opposing traits intersect. This colorful and mysterious video is a celebration of the liberation that comes when we allow the most vulnerable parts of ourselves to be laid bare for all to see.”

The Head And The Heart will resume their Every Shade of Blue 2022 North American Tour on September 10th. Special guests joining the band in select cities include Shakey Graves and Hiss Golden Messenger. Tickets for all shows are now on sale.

The Head and the Heart

The Head And The Heart have released their fifth studio album Every Shade of Blue on Reprise/Warner Records.

Every Shade of Blue

Of the album, Charity Rose Thielen wrote:

“The past few years have been nothing if not transitional. The people we were at the beginning of the pandemic are not the same ones writing this now. Every Shade of Blue is a collection of songs that celebrates the beautiful mess that we were during this time of transformation. For us it represents that constant dance between the head and the heart, the push and pull of different ideas and voices that add up to be greater than the sum of their parts. It is a record that tries its best to reconcile who we once were with who we are now and hope one day to become.”

Austin, TX’s Sun June have shared a video for their new single “Reminded,” from the expanded version of their acclaimed record, Somewhere, out tomorrow via Run For Cover and Keeled Scales.

“‘Reminded’ is about being captivated by someone you have a bad history with and wanting to reconcile with past mistakes, despite it being the most unhealthy decision. It’s about gazing narrowly into an old flame… Basically, it’s the sexiest song we’ve ever written,” says Laura Colwell. “The song leans so far into romance that we thought it would be fun to add some sax. Justin got to arrange it all, and then we had local saxophonist David Alvarez (from Medellin Collection, and Hyah!) lay it down.”

Sun June

Austin, TX’s Sun June have shared a lyric video for their new single “Easy.” The song is one of three new unreleased tracks featured in Somewhere +3, the upcoming expanded version of their critically acclaimed 2021 album Somewhere. Somewhere +3 is out January 14th via Run For Cover.

“‘Easy’ is a romantic struggle song. It’s about love and partnership and longstanding arguments that are hard to get past,” says Laura Colwell. “We started working on it after quarantine was lifted. Everyone had been cloistered alone for months, so frustration was easy to tap into. At the same time, it was joyous and cathartic to play together again, so the song came out upbeat and optimistic too. We loved getting to return to Good Danny’s studio to record—it was easy to find the sounds we wanted and get back into the Somewhere vibe.”

Sun June has also announced headline tours in February and March 2022 with Daphne Tunes and Katy Kirby, as well as a European tour with Ada Lea in January. The band is currently on tour with Shakey Graves.
