In July Jillian Medford aka Ian Sweet released her newest EP Star Stuff on Polyvinyl. Star Stuff has four tracks including the title track “Star Stuff”, “Fight”, “Fight (DAGR Remix)”, and “Die A Million Times.”

“‘DIE A MILLION TIMES’ is about being stuck in a negative thought loop that you know you could escape from if you really tried but you’re not willing to let go yet,” says Medford. “A thought loop that is so painful and destructive to your brain but yet you want to keep replaying certain memories over and over. I was living in a fantasy world about a relationship that didn’t end up working out and kept inviting in the thoughts and memories that I knew would continue to destroy me but I wasn’t ready to move on from them yet in order to help myself.”

Star Stuff follows Sweet’s 2021 full length album Show Me How You Disappear. Ian Sweet has previously released Shapeshifter & Crush Crusher. Ian Sweet has a buzzy, light sound mixed with thought provoking lyrics about the pain of relationships.

Ian Sweet is wrapping up her tour with a Denver date. She has been on the road since late July. 2021’s FEMMUSIC Best Indie Artist Bnny is opener.

Alvvays

The world has been patiently waiting for the return of one of indie rock’s most beloved and treasured bands. Today, Alvvays are pleased to be putting everyone out of their misery, announcing the new album Blue Rev which will be released via Polyvinyl on October 7th.

Blue Rev

At least the five-year wait was worthwhile: Blue Rev doesn’t simply reassert what’s always been great about Alvvays but instead reimagines it. They have, in part and sum, never been better. There are 14 songs on Blue Rev, making it not only the longest Alvvays album but also the most harmonically rich and lyrically provocative.

Alvvays are also releasing new song “Pharmacist,” the first song on the album and an exciting jumping off point for what is sure to be one of the albums of the year.

Last month they teased their return by announcing their 2022 fall tour. The tour will start in Chicago this October and hit all major US markets. They are also scheduled to play Courtney Barnett’s ‘Here and There Festival’ in August.

IAN SWEET (the project of LA artist Jilian Medford) presents a new single/video, “FIGHT,” today via Polyvinyl.

It’s her second standalone release following “f*ckthat” and her critically acclaimed album Show Me How You Disappear, and precedes her North American and EU/UK tour.

Medford elaborates on the track: “Spending everyday with someone, doing everything together, not knowing if the world was going to end. Leaning on someone with such heaviness, putting our entire weight and being onto each other because it’s all we had. The song plays into both the monotony of the relationship and the catastrophe that I went through after it ended. I felt so content in the relationship but then my entire world fell apart when it ended and I didn’t know how to pick myself back up and move forward.”

On the heels of what’s already been a banner year, IAN SWEET (the project of LA artist Jilian Medford) releases a new single/video, “f*ckthat,” via Polyvinyl, and announces a North American tour.

Medford elaborates on the track: “My phone causes me a lot of anxiety! I really only like to use it to take videos and pictures of my dog. This song is about not wanting to answer calls anymore and wishing I could just throw it out the window and disassociate from its evil/stress inducing technology.” The self-directed video was edited by previous collaborator Will Duncan.

Earlier this year, IAN SWEET released her latest album, the triumphant Show Me How You Disappear. In spring 2022, IAN SWEET will hit the road in support of Show Me How You Disappear.

Today Alt-pop trailblazers Kero Kero Bonito — a.k.a. Sarah Midori Perry / Sarah Bonito, Gus Lobban and Jamie Bulled — announce their new EP Civilisation II, out on April 21st via Polyvinyl, the long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s Civilisation I.

To celebrate the announcement of Civilisation II, KKB shares the first single off of the EP, entitled “The Princess and the Clock.” The song is a lively experimental-pop anthem about old-time mythology, with the lyrics recounting a fictional tale of a princess who is kidnapped while sailing the world. The band explain, “‘The Princess and the Clock’ is the tale of a young explorer who is kidnapped while sailing the world, imprisoned at the top of a tower and worshipped as royalty by an isolated society. Trapped in her chamber, she spends years dreaming of escaping, until one day she disappears. A legend of our own invention, ‘The Princess and the Clock’ was written before Covid emerged, though the long, lonely hours and escapist dreams its protagonist experiences will be relatable to many right now. It’s a song for anyone who has ever felt trapped, lost and alone.” The fable is masterfully illustrated through and animated by Dan W. Jacobs.
