Rosie Thorne

Rosie Thorne is the side project of Marisa “Missy” Dabice (she/her) and Max Steen (she/her) of Philadelphia band, Mannequin Pussy. Trading in their thrashing punk-leaning sound for alt-pop teeming with glittery synths and luxurious layers, they create a lush soundscape sonically distinct from MP. Today, they share a new single and romantic music video “You’re My Future,” starring a real life nonbinary trans couple who are also part of the Deaf and CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult) communities.

Musing on the inspiration behind the video, Marisa says, “I’m so deeply interested in human connection and the ways in which we express ourselves through love. How we show our devotion and our interest and our intent. There are so many different ways that we use language to demonstrate our love for another person. ‘You’re My Future’ attempts to capture how it feels to realize that the person you are falling in love with may be by your side forever.”

Sunflower Bean

New York trio Sunflower Bean—vocalist and bassist Julia Cumming (she/her), guitarist and vocalist Nick Kivlen (he/him), and drummer Olive Faber (she/they)—release their long-awaited new album, Headful of Sugar, tomorrow.

To celebrate the release, today the band share a new single entitled “In Flight”. Of the track and video Kivlen says, “This song is a romantic vision of meeting a lover, running away together, and entering a dangerous new world. It’s less safe but also less suffocating. The video follows me through a series of twilight zone-style mishaps as I search to be seen or understood. Things only improve when I finally find like-minded people. Is it a dream? Is it the multiverse? It’s for the viewer to decide.”

New York trio Sunflower Bean—vocalist and bassist Julia Cumming (she/her), guitarist and vocalist Nick Kivlen (he/him), and drummer Olive Faber (she/they)—are gearing up to release their long-awaited new album, Headful of Sugar, next month. Following the previously released “Who Put You Up To This?,” “Baby Don’t Cry” and “Roll The Dice” is “I Don’t Have Control Sometimes,” out today.

“I’ve always thought that my reckless side was both a gift and a curse, leading me to my best choices on stage but my worst choices in life,” explains Cumming. “I don’t have control sometimes is the admission, acceptance, and almost celebration of the parts of yourself that are impulsive or maybe even insane.”

Bachelor & TBA Present – Doomin’ Sun Fest

June 10, 2021

6pm EST

To Benefit Seeding Sovereignty

https://doominsunfest.bachelor-band.com/

Bachelor—the collaborative project of Jay Som’s Melina Duterte and Palehound’s Ellen Kempner—will release its debut album Doomin’ Sun on May 28th via Polyvinyl Record Co. (North America), Lucky Number (ROW) and Milk! Records (AUS/NZ). To celebrate the album release they have also announced Doomin’ Sun Fest, a massive livestream festival / telethon to benefit and uplift Seeding Sovereignty. The festival will take place on June 10 starting at 6pm ET., and will be followed by a virtual afterparty inside the 3D social game Hotel Hideaway

Created as a chance to gather for “Community, Compassion, Climate, and Celebration,” Doomin’ Sun Fest will be FREE to attend, but donations to Seeding Sovereignty will be highly encouraged. The organization is an Indigenous-led collective working to radicalize and disrupt colonized spaces through land, body, and food sovereignty work, community building, and cultural preservation.

Melina & Ellen will live-host Doomin’ Sun Fest, which will culminate in the first ever Bachelor concert, shot and directed by Haoyan Of America with designer Richie Brown, powered by HIFI Labs. “Basically we just wanna have fun celebrating our album release, raise funds for Seeding Sovereignty, and get people excited about donating and opening their hearts to themes of the fest – the “4 C’s” as we call them – that are driving this endeavor,” note Ellen and Melina.
