Holly Humberstone, started catching feelings for a friend and didn’t know how to navigate the risk of losing them if she blurred the lines between friendship and romance. ‘Sleep Tight’, Holly’s blistering new single  via Universal Music Australia, was born out of these emotions during a session with longtime collaborator Rob Milton and 1975’s Matty Healy.

Of the song, Holly  shares: “It’s awkward trying to navigate catching feelings for a friend, as they are often feelings we might have been suppressing for some time. When they float to the surface, you have to weigh up the risks of getting hurt and potentially losing them in your life. I wrote ‘Sleep Tight’ about the uncertainty of friendships evolving into something more. The first summer out of lockdown was pretty crazy for my friends and I because we finally had our freedom back and acted like we had nothing to lose. This song takes me back to that time of what felt like no consequences and impending heartbreak”

Today, breakout singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone has debuted her brand new single, “London Is Lonely,” the first release since the arrival of her heralded sophomore EP, The Walls Are Way Too Thin last fall. Produced by long-time collaborator Rob Milton.

“I wrote London Is Lonely back in February 2020 right before the pandemic hit here in the UK” says Holly.  I had just moved out of my childhood home down to London and had spent the past few months feeling really trapped and alone in my tiny flat with strangers. London felt so intense and although there were so many people around me, I felt even more isolated and like I didn’t belong. I kind of lost myself in the city. I didn’t exactly know who I was anymore, and so going home and writing felt like my safe space to process everything. It’s funny now listening to the song almost two years on, post-pandemic, and feeling like nothing much has changed at all. I’m still trying to find my place here and make it my home and so it felt right to put this song out into the world right now, when so many other people are probably feeling lost right now too.”

Holly Humberstone has already released the singles “Deep End” and “Falling Asleep At the Wheel” off her debut EP coming out later this year. She now releases “Overkill” about that intense state of a relationship.
Speaking of the release, Holly says: “The video for ‘Overkill’ was a pretty weird experience. Lockdown meant that we couldn’t shoot a professional video, so we had to improvise a little! My sister Eleri and I took an old VHS camera out at dusk into a forest near our home and she had me follow her through the trees, as I played along to ‘Overkill’. It was basically my version of the 5km run except I had no idea where I was going and it was impossible to see anything and not trip.”
