There is less than a week until the highly anticipated debut album from singer-songwriter-producer Marie Ulven aka girl in red is out into the world. if i could make it go quiet is out this Friday via her label World In Red / AWAL. Today she released the video for the hit single “Serotonin” which features her running around the streets of Oslo; girl in red co-directed the video with close friend and collaborator Isak Jenssen.
In more exciting news, girl in red will be making her late night TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday 5/3 performing “Serotonin.”
”Serotonin” is co-produced by GRAMMY®-winning producer FINNEAS, the track’s characteristically raw, honest and questioning lyrics delve into Ulven’s psyche, set to the most irrepressibly crisp, beat-driven earworm that girl in red has penned to date.
Girl In Red, Marie Ulven announces her debut album if I could make it go quiet out April 30 on AWAL. The album was written by Girl In Red, and co-produced by Matias Tellez. The album single “Serotonin” was co-produced by FINNEAS.
Of the album, Marie states: “if i could make it go quiet is an attempt to learn what it’s like to be human; to deal with the scariest parts of myself; to live with the pain of knowing i’m only flesh and bones; to be angry, broken and unforgiving yet still able to wear my heart on my sleeve; i’m shedding light on the darkest parts of my mind and i’m letting everyone in; if i could make it go quiet is me simply trying to understand what the fuck is going on.
Speaking about the collaboration, FINNEAS reveals, “Ashe to me, is a timeless artist. Her music will be as relevant and important 30 years from now as it is today. Making music with her has always been an extension of our friendship and I could not love this song more.”
Ashe comments, “’Till Forever Falls Apart’ is one of my favorite songs with one of my favorite people. If I’ve learned anything from ‘Moral of the Story,’ it’s that accepting the hard truth is strangely comforting. This song, while sounding like the most romantic song I’ve ever written, is about acceptance as well. The lyrics, ‘I’m gonna love you knowing we don’t have forever’ is about how it’s more important to have had the chance to love than to stay in love. FINNEAS is one of the most talented people I know and it’s fitting to release this song with someone I love so much. I’m lucky to know him and I hope to never know a life without him in it.”
Since COVID-19 began our local independent music venues have been suffering. In reaction the National Independent Venue Association was born. NIVA has been lobbying congress to get relief money so we don’t lose our independent venues. It has created a coalition of over 3000 member venues across the US in the music, comedy and arts sector.
The festival will be hosted by Reggie Watts and feature performances from 35 artists recorded live from more than 25 independent concert venues across the United States. These artists join YouTube and NIVA to amplify the message of NIVA’s Save Our Stages advocacy efforts and raise funds for its nationwide, need-based grant program to provide relief to these important members of the independent music, comedy and arts community.
The artists in the festival include:
