10 Artists to See at Melbourne Music Week

December 3-12, 2021

Melbourne VIC, Australia

https://mmw.melbourne.vic.gov.au/

Paving the way for the much-anticipated return of live music, MMW will see over 300 acts return to the stage for headline gigs, day parties, industry talks, DJ sets, live film scores, and much much more. From the Label showcases to the Live Music Safaris MMW is setting the stage. The Carlton International Jazz Festival will take place on December 4-5, and The Music Victoria Awards will take place on December 8.

There are many familiar names here from Banofee, Alice Skye, Elle Shimada, Zig Zag and more. Here are a few of our favorite picks for the festival.

Smile Machine – the solo project of Jordyn Blakely (Stove, Bartees Strange, Maneka) is set to release her debut, Bye For Now, on July 16th via Exploding In Sound Records (Floatie, Editrix, Thirdface). Having spent a decade playing drums within the Brooklyn DIY community, today Blakely shares the second Smile Machine single, “Pretty Today”. Speaking about the song, Blakely offered:

“This song is about wanting to create your own identity and break free from unhealthy patterns or behaviors, creating your own sense of self and not feeling stuck or enmeshed in your environment. Feeling confused about who you truly are and want to be; like maybe you never really knew yourself and are trying to figure it out all over again. It also is about examining one’s codependent tendencies, and how loving someone can feel smothering or you can be the person smothering someone.”
