Both Sharon and Angel have long-admired one another from the close-but-far distance of life on tour, a life that unifies them even as they’ve spent years criss-crossing each other from miles, countries, continents apart. Ask them each about the song’s origin story and they inadvertently stitch a mirror together, a story of mutual admiration and, lucky for us, eventual collaboration. “Even though we weren’t super close, I always felt supported by Angel and considered her a peer in this weird world of touring. We highway high-fived many times along the way…I finally got the courage in June of 2020 to reach out to see if she would want to sing together. I got greedy and quickly sent her a track I had been working on,” says Sharon.
“I’ve met with Sharon here and there throughout the years and have always felt too shy to ask her what she’s been up to or working on,” says Angel. “The song reminded me immediately of getting back to where I started, before music was expected of me, or much was expected of me, a time that remains pure and real in my heart.”
Ruth B announces her new album Moments In Between out June 11 on Downtown Records. The album is the follow up to Safe Haven. Moments In Between was produced by Patrick Wimberly, Justin Raisen and Doug Schaft. These producers have worked with Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Angel Olsen, Maggie Rogers and Ashe.
“‘Situation’ is maybe my favorite song I’ve ever written,” says Ruth, who wrote the track with Ido Zmishlany (Demi Lovato, Shawn Mendes). “It sounds so much like me, and where I am now versus a few years ago.”
“Writing songs has always been therapeutic for me,” says Ruth, “and I hope that hearing my songs helps other people in the same way. Whether they’re feeling lonely or heartbroken or happy, I want them to know that someone else understands what they’re going through.”
On May 7 Angel Olsen is releasing a box set Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories. The set will include All Mirrors, Whole New Mess and a new LP Far Memory, as well as a 40 page book. Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories is limited to 3000 physical copies.
In first speaking about Song of the Lark and Other Far Memories, Olsen said, “It feels like part of my writing has come back from the past, and another part of it was waiting to exist.”
