Bird – The Film

Award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist BIRD (Janie Price) releases her haunting new single “The Film”, now available on all major streaming platforms.
The track marks the first release from her upcoming EP, Strange as Folk, and arrives after her official AmericanaFest showcase.
A cinematic ode to heartbreak and disillusionment, “The Film” was written during the quiet solitude of the COVID lockdown, drawing deeply from BIRD’s experience in her home city of London. The track sways between Americana, folk, indie pop, and a whisper of folk horror, offering a unique blend of genres that is as emotionally layered as it is sonically rich.
‘The Film’ is about the inevitable void that we can step into from time to time and how this can be triggered by something as simple as watching a film and the memories and emotions that can conjure up…,” says BIRD. “It’s also essentially about that gap between expectation and reality, and how beautiful and painful that space can be.”
Known for her ethereal vocals and genre-defying compositions, BIRD builds an immersive soundscape using delicate finger-plucked ukulele and banjo, wrapped in dreamlike cinematic textures and underpinned by her unmistakable voice. The result is a track that feels both intimate and epic—reflective, yet otherworldly.
“The Film” follows the critical acclaim of her previous EP, released in June, and sets the tone for what promises to be a bold and experimental new chapter. Her upcoming EP Strange as Folk will roll out throughout the autumn, alongside her directorial debut—a short documentary about Roy Orbison titled You Found A Friend in Elvis.
