Caitlin Cannon – Love Addict

Today, Nashville-based country siren, Caitlin Cannon, has announced her forthcoming LP, Love Addict, out on May 9th, with the release of its title track and accompanying video.
“Love Addict” is an immersive, slow-burn confession full of intoxication and reckless abandon. Layers of lush strings, guitars, Mellotron, and pedal steel enhance the buzz as they weave through Cannon’s signature unapologetically bold lyrics. Imagine the soundtrack to a midnight rendezvous in a faded dive motel off the highway—equal parts romantic escapism and raw self-awareness. It’s a modern anthem for the sex-positive woman exploring the messy, beautiful chaos of desire, chasing what feels good, even if it’s bad.

“Originally titled ‘Oxi’—short for oxytocin in this case—‘Love Addict’ is just a sexy little science lesson. And yeah, I’ve been to those meetings,” says Cannon. “Honestly, I can get addicted to almost anything that feels good. The band really nailed the mood and groove which epitomizes that intoxicating feeling. Maybe that’s why we couldn’t stop, and the track ended up pushing five minutes. I like that about it.” The video, filmed and directed by Jesse Weeden, features cameos from Pam Tillis, Logan Ledger, Oliver Bates Craven (Sierra Ferrell), along with Cannon’s studio band—Jon Murray (Miranda Lambert), Eddy Dunlap (The Grand Ole Opry Band, The Time Jumpers), and the album’s producer, Misa Arriaga (Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson).
Love Addict is a bold, genre-defying body of work. Blending dreamy Americana with classic country, the 10-track record swirls with intergalactic pedal steel, gritty grooves, and raw, unguarded lyrics. Recorded live, the album captures the spontaneity of guitars bleeding into keys, drums, strings, and more, creating a sound that feels both timeless and fresh. Think “cosmicana”—a sonic landscape as deep and evocative as Cannon’s storytelling.
Cannon’s songwriting expertly balances humor and vulnerability, satire and sincerity. Her 2024 EP, Beggar, earned acclaim for tracks like “Amarillo and Little Rock” and “Waiting,” a deeply moving song that centers on her brother’s 35-year to date incarceration, which also reappears on Love Addict in demo form. If Beggar was the prelude, Love Addict is the crescendo—fully realized and unapologetic in its arrival.
While arguably more ‘vibey’ than some of Cannon’s earlier work, Love Addict still delivers her signature sneak attacks with a wink on songs like “Dr. Dealer” and “Jesus Is My Lover.” In the album’s title track she sings, “I know you’re lying when you say that stuff, I just got excited you could get it up,” calling out the unfairness of a woman’s seeming genetic predisposition to fall in love after every intimate act. Other introspective moments on Love Addict explore themes of loss, addiction, and self-worth. Songs like “Let It Hurt Some” (co-written with Arriaga) and “My Own Company” (a collaboration with renowned crooner Kiely Connell) channel the authentic country sound of 60s and 70s Nashville. Tender tracks like “I Wouldn’t Say I Love You” and “The Impact” reveal Cannon’s gift for crafting fresh, emotionally resonant narratives that linger long after the music ends.
Beyond music, Cannon is a force of creative energy. From her comedic debut on Kill Tony to teaching songwriting to inmates through her Beyond Bars program, she defies easy categorization. Beyond Bars, developed in collaboration with The Cultural Arts Alliance and The 30A Songwriters Festival, will be featured on Meg Ryan’s series Empowered this spring, highlighting her commitment to bridging art and social impact.
Cannon admits she’ll need at least 80 more pain-free years to accomplish half of her yet-unfulfilled creative desires. Her refusal to fade into the background and her drive to continually push her own boundaries only enhance her status as one of the most exciting artists you’ve probably never heard of. With its May 2025 release, Love Addict promises to solidify her place as one of the most compelling, under-the-radar artists today. As she puts it, “Constant evolution and laughter keep us young”—and Caitlin Cannon shows no signs of slowing down.
