Sierra Spirit – American Pie
On the heels of her highly praised debut EP coin toss, Sierra Spirit, the solo project of Native American artist Sierra Spirit Kihega, returns with her new single “American Pie” out today via Giant Music.
The latest track from the Tulsa-born and raised artist leans into her rootsier side, where twangy vocals glide atop driving percussion, violin, and finger-plucked guitar. On the single, Spirit shares, ““American Pie is a reflection on the American dream and the uncertainty of this point in time. We all want our own little slice of it but we take what we can get and we take it as it is.”
Spirit’s debut EP, coin toss, drew on her lived experience and cultural background as part of the Native community (Otoe-Missouria and Keetoowah Cherokee) and served as a beautiful ode to the power of storytelling and honoring her Indigenous roots. coin toss tells a raw story of the honest struggles of growing up. Taking inspiration from artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, The Japanese House, and Ethel Cain – Sierra has created a unique brand of melancholy, guitar-driven, twangy indie rock.
Spirit will also join David Gray on over 20 of his North American tour dates this Winter and will play at New York’s Beacon Theatre tonight! The tour will see upcoming stops in Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin and Nashville.
