Jessie Mazin – the man with money in his hands

Today, the rising assertive voice in alternative pop and folk music, Jessie Mazin, releases her first single, the impossible to ignore and searing rally cry, “the man with money in his hands.”

The unfiltered track lives in the space between cynicism and empathy. It serves as a scathing indictment of power orienting around the hyper-rich elites while material realities grow increasingly difficult for others. Striking a balance between rage and reckoning, Mazin faces generational disillusionment head on in “the man with money in his hands” refusing to separate her art from activism.

Of the track, Mazin elaborated “The greed and obsession with power I’ve witnessed in this country has left me feeling helpless and angry. Billionaires continue to increase their wealth and capital at an extremely rapid wealth, while millions can barely afford to eat. ‘the man with money in his hands’ is a critique of this systemic oligarchical corruption and an expression of my anger.”

Mazin began singing almost as soon as she could talk, spending her childhood immersed in musical theater before teaching herself to write songs on the ukulele. When the pandemic hit, she picked up guitar and began sharing her music online. With a weaving, emotive voice and lyrics that move from incisively political to deeply personal, Mazin quickly found a community of listeners and peers navigating the same uncertain realities of the 21st century. Her music reflects a coming-of-age shaped by global upheaval, using songwriting as both personal expression and a means of processing social and political realities.
