Nymphlord – Star

Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and producer Nymphlord today unveils “Star,” a haunting new single and video inspired by the cult classic Heathers, out now via Lauren Records.
Intimate and unsettling, the track digs into the dark, emotional undercurrents of adolescence, pairing stark tension with subterranean synths and a creeping sense of unease.
Built on a thin, twanging acoustic guitar and shadowy electronic textures, “Star” plays like a warning whispered too late. Lyrically inspired by true stories and the emotional brutality of teenage girlhood, the song unfolds like a cautionary tale – one that mirrors the psychological horror lurking beneath Heathers’ pitch-black humor. Its accompanying video, filmed inside a hoarder’s abandoned house, heightens the claustrophobic dread.
“Heathers is one of my favorite movies and this song is inspired by that,” says Nymphlord. “Based on true stories, it’s kind of a cautionary tale – the trials and tribulations of a teenage girl.”
Raised in the wooded foothills of Northern California, Nymphlord bubbled up from a unique brew of ’90s rock, Laurel Canyon acoustic guitar plucks, and bush-whacked suburban trail walks. Influenced by whisper-in-your-ear punk performances combined with an unshakeable love of Top 40 radio, the Nymphlord sound is angsty, ethereal, hopeful, and dissonant. Danceable, even when the lyrics are low and the mic is too close. Persistently intimate, acoustic strums morph into cavernous electric screams and feminist themes are explored through the lens of little moments both romantic and platonic.
