Alex’s latest offering highlights a new sensitive yet fun-loving side of her artistry as it weaves its way through heartbreak, jealousy, and love. crushed! is an unforgettable cloud nine, frothing with all the energy, perplexity, and starry-eyed hope of seeing someone who takes your breath away, resulting in an EP that sounds like sending a ten-minute long voice note about your latest crush to your best friend.

Alex says of the EP: “This EP is a peek inside of my insane brain when I came down with a terrible case of having a crush. This one took over me like no other, and in true girlhood fashion, I am here to tell anyone who’s willing to listen about it.”

The EP opens with an unforgettable situationship anthem, “Face Like Yours.”

Lamenting what a shame it is that someone so beautiful could have such a horrid personality, Alex’s tongue-in-cheek lyricism shines in this track about a walking, albeit gorgeous, red flag: “What a waste of a face like yours / What a shame you were nothing more / Than a night to remember, a hand-me-down sweater / A future as dry as a desert”. “Kissing You” is all about a crush that has you absolutely losing it.

The addictively upbeat track is accompanied by a kaleidoscopic music video that features Alex and her girls dancing together, surrounded by crushed velvet, glistening mirrorballs, and powdery lace, solidifying her status as the shining main pop girlie of our dreams.

Inescapably catchy, “Better Than That”, finds Alex seeing someone she loves settling for less than what they deserve, singing, “I could never break / Never break your heart / Hope that she fucks up / Baby, I could love you better than that” Frenetically paced and leaping into the unknown, “Disaster” is a mad rush into the terrifying and soul-consuming experience of realizing your crush is more than what it once seemed. And laced with Alex’s sweet, forgiving vocals and synth-y production, “Brand New Heart” is at once breezy and despondent, facing down the whirlwind of emotion that comes with facing someone who has moved on and whom you barely recognize anymore.

The EP closes with “Blueprint”, a calm reflection on what could have been and the crush who didn’t end up being the one, but who has become the blueprint for every relationship hereafter. Set against echoing drums and sentimental acoustic guitar, Alex Porat gently weaves a sparkling web of memory, potential, and flickers of the “might-have-been”.
