Susannah Joffe – Horses Can’t Outrun Me

Susannah Joffe by Austen Juul-Hansen

Today, NYC-via-Austin indie dream-pop artist Susannah Joffe is sharing “Horses Can’t Outrun Me”, the latest single off of her upcoming EP, Cult Leader (due July 27th).

The track chases after Susannah as she jumps the gun and runs away from a once intoxicating, toxic love. Melding ethereal southern twang with campy pop synth, the track feels like the lovechild of Angel Olsen and Chappell Roan, an alluring encapsulation of a runner’s high. With mesmerizing distorted guitars, vintage omnichord, and a galloping bassline, Susannah Joffe’s latest offering evokes the heart-pounding feeling of a neon pink horse running in slow motion across a desolate desert.

Susannah describes the track in her own words: “Horses Can’t Outrun Me” is a cinematic dream-pop track that blends nostalgic 80s pop with shoegaze textures, telling a story of emotional escape through Americana-laced imagery and vivid, surreal longing.”

After recently crossing 1M monthly listeners on Spotify, it is clear that the universe of Susannah Joffe is ever-expanding and irresistibly infatuating. “Horses Can’t Outrun Me” showcases Susannah’s ability to paint evocative lyrical landscapes driven by heart-wrenching narratives that toe the lines between heated desire, biting regret, and careful rumination. With a cynical eagerness leaking out of the cracks of her broken heart and vocals as soft as gossamer, she sings, “Regret isn’t a race / But I’ll take a ribbon for first place / I’m taking my heart off my sleeve / Cause love’s a dangerous thing”. All in all, “Horses Can’t Outrun Me” adds another darkly luscious layer to the rich, masterfully crafted Americana-pop world of Susannah Joffe.

“Horses Can’t Outrun Me” ride in on the heels of Susannah Joffe’s breakout singles “Call Me Pretty”, “Shit Out Of Luck” and “Sofia Coppola.”
