MARIS – Mary + I

Up-and-coming indie pop singer MARIS releases her summer anthem “Mary + I,” a shimmering exploration of her holy trinity: weed, sex, and faith.

MARIS says, “Mary + I’ started as an homage to weed and celibacy, viewing it in almost a cynical, panicky way. But then I started to get really into yoga and meditation, and doing those things on a gummy changed my life. I had to slow down, breathe, and walk myself through anxiety. There’s a line “lock me in like a nun, ‘cause lately I fuck like a loser,” and this was coming from my genuine concern about the fact that I was so uninterested in sex. All I wanted to do every night was get stoned and journal and meditate. Although I had a lot of anxiety about not having sex for literally 4 months or something, I also went on such a deep journey into myself and my spirituality. I feel like I when I came back to my sexuality, I was a new person. During all of this spiritual exploration, I became familiar with Mary Magdalene, and started to study her gospel from a book my friend Izzy gave to me. I learned about the god within myself, and within every atom on earth, and I’ll never forget the celibacy and cannabis filled liberation of that stoner summer.”

MARIS recently released her first collab with Caroline Kingsbury on their single “Give Me A Sign.”
