Caitlin Cannon – Jesus Is My Lover

Caitlin Cannon by Stacie Huckeba

Nashville’s Caitlin Cannon has unveiled “Jesus Is My Lover,” the latest single from her forthcoming LP, Love Addict, out on May 9th.

A spicy bassline and laid-back stride give the track a pulse of risky energy—like you’re smuggling a kilo of cocaine across the border in an El Camino, top-down, wind in your hair, heart racing as the stakes rise. Cannon’s cosmically sarcastic and seductively absurd journey into the depths of desire begs us to take a ride into a world where the only real danger is taking oneself too seriously.

“This song is really well-intended (for the well-humored),” she explains. “Because maybe you spend a special night with a fellow, and maybe he tells you he’s coming back, and then maybe he never does! So, I just as soon raise my standards and hold out for the actual Messiah—who looks like Jason Mamoa in every painting I ever saw,” she continues. “My co-writer, Jolene, and I may have eaten some special mushrooms in Joshua Tree when we wrote it years ago.”

Love Addict Cover

“Jesus Is My Lover” follows lead single “Love Addict,” an immersive, slow-burn confession full of intoxication and reckless abandon. Imagine the soundtrack to a midnight rendezvous in a faded dive motel off the highway—equal parts romantic escapism and raw self-awareness. It’s a modern anthem for the sex-positive woman exploring the messy, beautiful chaos of desire, chasing what feels good, even if it’s bad.  The video, filmed and directed by Jesse Weeden, features cameos from Pam Tillis, Logan Ledger, Oliver Bates Craven (Sierra Ferrell), along with Cannon’s studio band—Jon Murray (Miranda Lambert), Eddy Dunlap (The Grand Ole Opry Band, The Time Jumpers), and the album’s producer, Misa Arriaga (Kacey Musgraves, Willie Nelson).
