Cecilia Castleman – Cecilia Castleman

Cecilia Castleman is having the best birthday ever! Today, on the eve of her 24th year, she released her gorgeous eponymous debut album via Glassnote Records.

Cecilia Castleman was recorded in Los Angeles’ famed Henson Recording Studios and produced by six-time Grammy Award winner Don Was. The Nashville-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist draws inspiration from Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt and Joni Mitchell for a sound that is both modern and undeniably reminiscent of the legends who influenced her. The album is a vulnerable and introspective coming-of-age opus that is heartbreaking and joyous with Cecilia’s haunting vocals soaring over Pop and Americana melodies.
Of the record, Cecilia says, “I’ve had the opportunity to make a record at the right time with the right people and that’s all I’ve ever wanted in my life. It came out better than I ever imagined. Don and I really understood each other from the very beginning. We’d go home for the night, listen to the current mixes and the next morning we’d compare notes. Nine times out of ten, they’d be the same. It was telepathic. This record is a composition of my fragile thoughts. I wrote and played everything I knew. It’s scary to be that vulnerable, but it’s easier to sing how I felt rather than say it. This record has something for everyone—the thinkers, the dancers, the dreamers, the guitar players and singers, and the lonely ones… this is for you.”
Along with the album release, Cecilia shares the music video for the focus track, “Waiting On You”. The video was filmed at Jeremy Ferguson’s Nashville studio, Battle Tapes and was directed and edited by Oscar Villanueva.
The track is a true pop music delight showcasing Cecilia’s extraordinary guitar playing layered with catchy hooks that compliment her vocal range. “This is one of my favorite songs on the record,” she says. “I wrote it with a friend of mine, Daniel Tashian, who also produced this version. All of my influences show in this song—Dire Straits, John Mayer, Fleetwood Mac. The video was filmed in my friend Jeremy’s studio, Battle Tapes, in Nashville. I wanted to show what my day-to-day life is really like: in a room full of gear, just trying to make something that reflects the time period in my life.”
