Aly & Aj – What It Feels Like
Today, California indie pop-rock duo Aly & AJ release of their highly anticipated lead single, “What It Feels Like”. Produced by 3x Grammy-nominated Jonathan Wilson, the pop track marks the first offering from their recently announced album Silver Deliverer, slated to release Spring 2025.
’What It Feels Like’ embraces new life stages as a woman in our objectifying culture,” describe songwriters, vocalists and sisters Aly & AJ Michalka. “Written from the perspective of a new mother and a new aunt, about the beauty in noticing physical changes and resolving to admire them, prioritizing positivity and using family and sisterhood as a foundation to lean on during difficult mental health moments. It is also a response to an industry that doesn’t tend to value women as they grow through life and represents a sound that is authentically two sisters who want to make rock music at any cost.”
Recorded in the tranquil Topanga Canyon, CA, the song captures a raw, authentic energy shaped by the unique circumstances of its creation: during the recording session, Aly Michalka went into labor with her son, Jack, infusing the project with the spirit of fertility, nature, womanhood, motherhood, sisterhood and growth. These transformative themes are interwoven into the track’s stirring lyrics: “That’s ok I’m not afraid. I want to know what it feels like.”
