Daisy Grenade – Polly
Rising power punk darlings Daisy Grenade, the duo composed of Keaton Whittaker and Dani Nigro, have shared their cover of Nirvana’s classic track “Polly” via Public Consumption/DCD2/Fueled By Ramen.
“‘Polly’ by Nirvana is a true story of a young girl coming home from a concert in Tacoma, Washington who was abducted, tortured, and raped, but managed to escape from her captor and live,” the duo explained.
“The song is sung from the perspective of the perpetrator, in an effort to fully realize the horror of these events. We chose to cover this song not only because we are hugely inspired by Nirvana, but as a way to reassert our power as women, and to stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault. The story of ‘Polly’ and so many other women and girls like her is a story of strength, resilience, and power. We aim to make that very clear in this version, made and sung by women.”
Just off the heels of Sad Summer Fest, Daisy Grenade will be kicking off additional tour dates with their first stop at When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas, NV on October 19th and 20th. Directly following, they’ll be on the road supporting State Champs’ U.S. tour, which wraps with two back to back nights at New York City’s Webster Hall.
