The British Invasion of September 2024

When you typically call “The British Invasion” in the US you are referring to the arrival of the The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and more who made their first excursions to the US in the early 1960’s. This month, in Denver, we have a new British Invasion with some of the most innovative women artists:

Sophie Ellis-Bextor – For over 20 years Sophie Ellis-Bextor has been active in the UK Rock scene. She has released 7 solo albums including her latest Hana, in 2023. She also released her book Spinning Plates: Thoughts on Men, Music & Motherhood in 2021. She has had a resurgence with her song “Murder On The Dancefloor” when it was featured on Saltburn. She is at the Gothic on September 4.

Jazmin Bean – Jazmin Bean released her debut album, Traumatic Livelihood last year. It includes singles “Piggie”, “Terrified”, “Sh*t Show” and more. She releases “It’s Not My Fault (It’s Yours)” for the deluxe edition. Bean is known for extreme makeup and even making fun of her own appearance. The music is pure alt rock from this artist. She is at the Gothic on September 19.

Griff – Griff released her studio album, Vertigo, this July. It was 5 years ago that she was signed to Warner Records. In that time she has released single “Mirror Talk”, “Good Stuff”, “Black Hole” and more. She opened for Taylor Swift in The Eras Tour in London. Her latest single is “Tears For Fun.” She plays the Gothic on September 29.

English Teacher – English Teacher released their debut album, This Could Be Texas, in April. The album includes singles “Best Tears Of Your Life”, “The World’s Biggest Paving Slab”, and “R&B.” This UK 4 piece is led by Lily Fontaine’s powerful vocals. They released their live EP Live From BBC Maida Vale a couple of days ago. English Teacher is at Larimer Lounge September 29.
