Last month, JJ Wilde announced the forthcoming release of a full length album, Vices, due September 20, 2024, including songs taken from this year’s Best Of Me (Part 1) EP and her most recent singles, “Takes Me Back” and “Options.”

Today, Wilde has returned with the new song, “im not crazy youre just an asshole (toxic),” another glimpse of what’s to come from her most personal album to date. The album marks a pivotal milestone for the trailblazing rockstar, reflecting her dedicated focus over the past two years in the studio to create her most authentic and compelling work to date.

While reflecting on the new song’s themes and inspiration, Wilde says “As someone who experienced bullying throughout my life I have absolutely no time for it. Someone making someone else feel like shit to make themselves feel better is the lowest of the low in my opinion. This song is a letter to those who choose to put others down and actively try and hurt others. In my case it was a group of mean girls very similar to the movie (there was even a burn book).”

Continuing, Wilde explains that “This song is a rally cry for those who experience bullying and don’t know how to stand up for themselves. It’s what I wish I had been able to say when I was going through it myself. Eventually I did stand up to them and it all stopped but I am grateful for that experience. I have much more appreciation for people and kindness and standing up for myself and others.”

Speaking on Vices, Wilde said “This album is the album I said I would never make. I always said that I would never put a relationship before music or myself and then I went and got completely lost in someone. The amount of emotional, personal and mental growth that this album has brought forward for me is massive. It’s the breakup album I swore I wouldn’t write. But I got dumped before a two month tour across the states, and that was the catalyst to  go deeper into my most vulnerable places, and heal. I’ve always had sort of a hard shell and a wall up when it comes to how far I let people in and what I share in my music. I think I had an idea of what people wanted to hear from me. Or what I was supposed to be as a woman in rock music. This album completely tears down that wall to expose a softer side.”

She continues, “After being lost in the pursuit of someone, I found myself again while writing this album. I took a road trip that took me across America where I packed my VW and didn’t come back for 3 months, waking up in a new city and deciding that day where to go next. I stayed on the road for almost an entire year touring around the world. I moved from Ontario to Nashville. I began performing sober for the first time in my life. Each writing session felt like it was unlocking a new sense of hurt that led to healing. There’s so many different beautiful things that come from true heartbreak. And I don’t think I have ever felt hurt like this.”

Wilde just wrapped her latest stint on the road, traveling across the United States alongside GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Marcus King, before heading out on her headlining All My Vices tour, returning to many of those cities. This summer, she’s already made waves during festival season, taking the stage at Quebec City’s renowned Festival D’Été ahead of Nickelback, Ottawa Bluesfest with Mötley Crüe, Tall Pines Music & Arts Festival with City and Colour, and more.
