English Teacher – US Headline Tour

Leeds, UK-based English Teacher have released one of the year’s most critically praised albums, This Could Be Texas, via Island Records. Following an extensive UK tour, English Teacher now kick off their first run of US shows in support of the album next week. Today, they extend the previously announced fall run supporting IDLES with their own headlining shows, including debut performances in Texas, Denver, Chapel Hill and throughout the west coast, plus a return to Los Angeles.

This Could Be Texas was produced and mixed by Marta Salogni (black midi, Depeche Mode, Björk) and represents the sonic journeys of the four songwriters – comprised of Lily Fontaine (vocals, rhythm guitar, synth), Douglas Frost (drums, piano, vocals), Nicholas Eden (bass) and Lewis Whiting (lead guitar) – thus far with some tracks written at university in 2016-2019’s post-nest-fleeing nostalgia and others in the weeks before entering the studio. Heralding the sound of a band inhabiting a sonic identity all their own, This Could Be Texas bursts with intricate, math-rock leanings, literary references, and meticulously crafted melodies with lyrics that explore far-ranging themes, including social issues, struggling to belong, mental health and science fiction. The album begins and ends with references to nineties touchpoints – melodic, colleague rock-worthy guitars on opener “Albatross,” and a huge arena-worthy climax to the anthemic “Albert Road,” and the pace is forever shifting. From the subtle, experimental landscape changes of “Not Everybody Gets To Go To Space,” to the more grounded, intimate likes of “Broken Biscuits” and “Nearly Daffodils.”
