Daisychain at Skylark Lounge

Denver, CO

April 27, 2024

Daisychain began in 2017 when Sophie Williams & Nickole Regala met at an open mic in Chicago. The full band is Sophie Williams, Nickole Regala, Frankie Sripada and John Merikoski. This blues psych rock 4 piece is full of energy and exciting to watch. In 2022 they released their latest EP Different Shades. It includes six songs including “The Mirror”

They are now working on their debut album.

Last December they came to Skylark and left a lasting impression. They return this Saturday for a show not to be missed. FEMMUSIC e-mailed with them about their process, the new album and more.

FEMMUSIC: Can you describe your songwriting technique? How does a song develop within the band?

Sophia Williams: Our songwriting technique usually starts with an idea (musically or lyrically) from one of us, and then we collectively work to devolop the idea. Our music is really a collaboration and evolves with the help of the whole band.

FEMMUSIC:  I see you recently had an album fundraiser. What can you tell me about the new album?

Nickole Regala: It’s our first full length album! It’s by far the biggest musical project that we’ve taken on, and it’s required a lot of work, physically and emotionally. Over the past few months we’ve written 100 demos for the album, and we’ll eventually narrow it down to 10. We’re looking forward to sharing it with everyone soon!

FEMMUSIC: I had the pleasure of seeing you last year in Denver. You’re a band that has an incredible live show. How do you translate that in the studio? What do you look for in production?

Sophia Williams: First off, thank you so much for making it to our Denver show last winter! We always have a blast playing live, and when recording, we try to carry the energy and feelings of a live show. A lot of recording that we’ve done in the past has been in a live setting, we try to capture as much as we can live/together first, and then record what is needed over that.

FEMMUSIC: As I write this, you’re a few days away from starting the new tour. What do you enjoy most about touring? What experiences have stuck out?

Sophie Williams & Nickole Regala: We love touring! It’s always amazing to meet new people and reconnect with people that we’ve met on the road in the past. We try to take advantage of our days off as well, we like to go to national parks or visit with family and friends. This tour we’re going to White Sands National Park on one of our days off!

FEMMUSIC: What song (not your own) has has the biggest influence on you and why?

Sophie Williams & Nickole Regala: We are influenced by so many genres and types of music, it’s hard to pinpoint one song or even one genre. We are influenced by everything from The Mamas and the Papas to Patti Smith to Tool etc etc. We usually have a couple songs that we have on repeat during tours!

FEMMUSIC: What one thing would you like to change about the music industry?

Sophie Williams & Nickole Regala: No industry is perfect, but it would be great to see artists of every medium getting paid a fair wage for their time and skillset! And of course we’d love to see more women and BIPOC folks represented!
