Nora Jane Struthers – Back To Cast Iron
Nora Jane Struthers releases the title track from her forthcoming album Back To Cast Iron out October 27.
This single is the bedrock of this album. These days it is common for mothering-focused media to discuss the challenges and stigmas of breastfeeding. I have heretofore only encountered one article which explores the heartbreak that can accompany the process of weaning a baby. This song is about weaning my daughter (by 18 months) which was necessary for me to accomplish before we could proceed with our second embryo transfer (hormone shots and nursing don’t mix).
There is still stigma surrounding breastfeeding and no one really talks about the emotions surrounding it. Nora Jane wants to confront those stigmas, and bring comfort to those who are afraid to talk about it.
The overarching theme of the album incorporates those ideas, though it’s largely about the balancing act of having two life dreams at the same time – family and career. Sometimes, life and circumstances force you to let go of one for the other. It’s about letting go of something that you love, coming to terms with what you’re going to put in its place, and finding new ways of seeking joy.
